I’ve Eaten Thousands Of Red Onions, But Had NO IDEA, They Did This To Them Before They Go To Stores

If you’re like me and are curious about how the things you eat end up at your dining room table, you will definitely want to see this eye-opening video.

People have been eating onions for centuries, but most people just assume they grow from the ground, are picked, and sold to grocery stores. But, that is not the case. You have to see the fascinating process behind how onions, specifically Gills’ onions, are made.

This episode of the popular television show How It’s Made features how Gill’s onions are made and it is absolutely mind blowing. If you’re not familiar with the show, it gives “a look behind the scenes at how everyday things are manufactured. Typically each episode includes three to four products featured, with a mix consisting of common items such as jeans, aluminum foil and cereal, and less predictable ones like wax figurines, braille typewriters and pinball machines.”

A lot of work goes into crafting the perfect onion after it is picked from the ground. The first stop for an onion after it leaves the farm is a cooling tunnel from which powerful fans remove the heat. They then take about five hours to cool down to the appropriate temperature for storage.
